Guild of Gas Fitting Operatives (GGFO) – UK

Scheme Information From the 1st October 2017, all Managed Learning Programmes (MLP) that lead to Gas Safe Register will need to comply with the requirements of IGEM/IG/1 Standards of training in gas work. ERS has developed Managed Learning Programmes for Category 2 and Category 3 New Entrants, the Scheme available has SIX routes of entry as follows:
  • Domestic Gas Safety (D1)
  • Domestic Gas Safety RPL (D1)
  • Commercial Gas Safety (C1)
  • Commercial Catering Gas Safety (CC1)
  • Domestic Meter Installers Gas Safety (DMI1)
  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety (LPG1)
Pre-requisites Category 2 candidates will:
  • hold a recognised qualification in the mechanical services engineering sector
  • undertake ‘on the job’ training and provide work-based evidence under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered installer, this evidence should detail precisely the type, range and volume of gas work carried out
  • undertake ‘off the job’ training
  • complete GGFO assessments
Minimum combined on and off job course duration is 502 hours. Category 3 applicants are:
  • new to the gas industry and will be without a recognised qualification or experience
  • undertake ‘on the job’ training and provide work-based evidence under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered installer
  • undertake ‘off the job’ training (4 weeks)
  • complete GGFO assessments
Minimum combined on and off job course duration is 1,122 hours.
Assessment Information Assessments will consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations.
Expiry Information Certificates are normally valid for 5 years. On successful completion of the training, portfolio and assessment, candidates who are issued with an ERS GGFO certificate can then apply to undertake relevant ACS assessments.
