Oil Fired Technicians (OFTEC)

Scheme Information The Oil Fired Technicians scheme is designed to test the oil competence of candidates who require certification in the following:
  • OFT10 101 Single Stage Pressure Jet Service and Commissioning
  • OFT10 102 Servicing and Commissioning of Oil and Bio Fuelled Vaporising Burner Fired Domestic Fixed Combustion Appliances (WET <45kW)
  • OFT10 102 Servicing and Commissioning of Oil and Bio Fuelled Vaporising Burner Fired Domestic Fixed Combustion Appliances (WET <45kW)
  • OFT10 105E Installation of Oil and Bio Fuelled Fixed Combustion Appliances and System
  • OFT10 600a Installation of Oil Fuel Storage and Supply Systems Connected to Fixed Combustion Appliances
Pre-requisites Category 1 candidates will:
  • be required to provide original OFTEC certificates prior to taking assessment
Category 2 candidates will:
  • hold a recognised qualification in the mechanical services engineering sector or have relevant skills & experience gained from working in a related trade
  • provide original copy of relevant qualification and/or provide evidence work-based experience gained under the supervision of an OFTEC registered installer
  • undertake ‘off the job’ training
Category 3 applicants are:
  • new to the oil industry and will be without a recognised qualification or experience
  • required to obtain employment with an OFTEC registered business and undertake ‘on the job’ training and provide evidence of work-based experience or undertake a training programme i.e. OFT 50
  • undertake ‘off the job’ training
Assessment Information Assessments consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations. OFTEC will be notified of certification results.
Expiry Information OFTEC certificates are normally valid for 5 years. Candidates are eligible to undertake re-assessment up to 6 months prior to the expiry date of the initial certificate. Previous certificates must be presented to the assessment centre as evidence.
